How You Could Harm Your SEO Efforts By Designing Your Own Website

Many people think that if they design their own website it will save them a lot of money. But what can happen is that they make such a bad job of it that it actually only serves to put people off instead of attracting more visitors. And what is even scarier is the fact that a lot of people will think their site looks fantastic when in fact it looks awful. The bad thing is that your site is probably going to look awful if you have never had any web design training.

They say that the entire works of Shakespeare could be reproduced by at least one monkey if you gave a typewriter to enough of them. And although the odds of an untrained person getting the design of their site right is not as high as the monkey scenario, it is quite close.

These designers need extensive training and it is not just about being able to decide what looks pretty and what doesn’t. The fact is that there is an actual science to designing a website and unfortunately most of us don’t know what this is. Even though it would be possible for us to take a course in web design, most people won’t do this. What often happens is that they will just carry on regardless and create their own website even though it doesn’t look too good.

You may be able to generate quite a bit of traffic to your website but it is unlikely that any of these visitors will linger too long if they find your website a bit amateurish. The appearance can totally put people off and then they won’t even stay long enough to read the first line on your home page.

People don’t have to hang around to see if your content is any good because they really have so much choice on the internet. First impressions really count on the web and this is why it really does pay to leave the web design to the web designers.
