Difference B/w Iso 9001 Certification & Iso 14001 Certification

To understand the difference between the ISO 9001 Certification and ISO 14001 Certification, one first ought to understand the very concept of ISO Certification Body. This certification is reference to a written assurance issued by an independent external body about the audit that has been done on a management system and verification that matches the requirements specified in the standard. This term implies that the body conducting the audit records the ‘Certification’ in its client record. This implies that the management system of the enterprise gets registered and certified. It is a formal recognition for the enterprise and can be used as a symbol to justify that the operational structure is active and bona fide. The ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are two such certifications that are issued to enterprises after being judged on different criterion.

The ISO 9001 Certification is an International Standard against which the evaluation of the Quality Management System of an enterprise is done. This certification is only issued to an enterprise when the audit body auditing the QMS is convinced that the business can provide consistent standards of quality in the services and good provided to clients. This can be applied to all the enterprises, mostly to confirm the best practicing methodologies and procedures at work. All the necessary changes and alterations are taken into consideration before the certification gets issued and this certification has to be done by a legally accredited certifying company, which is also the audit body.

The ISO 14001 Standard is also reference to Management System Certification of a Company, but is concerned about the impact they have on the environment around. Environmental Issues take center stage in this type of certification where only those organizations get certified whose services are upholding the environmental scenario in the highest order. This certification covers areas like pollution reduction, waste control and proper usage of energy and raw materials that will help the enterprise is saving costs. This certification also ensures that the enterprise is protected from prosecution on violation of these grounds.

ISO 9001 is about quality control where as ISO 14001 is about pollution and waste control. The former focuses on the quality of products delivered to clients where as the latter lays emphasis on the ways adopted by the enterprise to save resources, curb waste and finish off pollution emerging from the company premises. Both of them have their own importance and are mostly pertinent to the service sector industries where these parameters are looked up to in a very particular and stringent manner. They both assert different virtues about an organization and are seldom awarded dually.

Only those enterprises qualify for these certifications who stand up to all the parameters that have been mentioned in the charters and get accredited only when the audit body scrutinizing their management systems feel convinced about every parameter on which the organization gets judged. They are very different in terms of the charter but with a commonality of setting the highest standards on which the enterprise gets evaluated.
